Recognition of Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs): NCTE is responsible for granting recognition to institutions offering teacher education programs, both in the public and private sectors. TEIs need NCTE recognition to operate and offer teacher training programs.

Approval of Teacher Education Programs: NCTE approves the curriculum, courses, and duration of teacher education programs offered by TEIs to ensure they meet the prescribed standards and guidelines.

Setting Standards: NCTE establishes standards and guidelines for teacher education programs, infrastructure, faculty qualifications, and other aspects to maintain quality and relevance in teacher preparation.

Regulation and Monitoring: NCTE regulates and monitors teacher education institutions to ensure compliance with the prescribed norms and standards. It conducts inspections and assessments of TEIs to assess their infrastructure, faculty, and academic programs.

Research and Development: NCTE undertakes research and development activities in the field of teacher education to identify emerging trends, best practices, and areas for improvement. It also promotes innovation and experimentation in teacher education.

Promotion of Quality: NCTE works towards enhancing the quality of teacher education through capacity building programs for teacher educators, curriculum development initiatives, and the dissemination of good practices.

Advisory Role: NCTE advises the Central and State Governments on matters related to teacher education policies, regulations, and reforms.
